III Flight Management: Intermediate A (2A Fall) 0.5 unit / IV Flight Management: Intermediate B (2B Winter) 0.5 unit

Course Descriptions: These courses prepare students to pass the Transport Canada Commercial Written Examination. It builds a deeper understanding of the material in Flight Management: Basic, and introduces topics such as complex aircraft systems, advanced (radio) navigation, air regulations as they apply to commercial air services, transportation of dangerous goods, survival skills and first aid. Class lectures focus on the theoretical material and the tutorials provide practical exercises, opportunities for seminars and preparation for the commercial written exam.

Many of the subjects detailed in the Study and Reference Guide for Commercial Pilots are also be presented in the Private Pilot curriculum. However, at the commercial level, an increased depth of understanding is expected in the four mandatory subject areas – Air Law and Procedures, Navigation and Radio Aids, Meteorology and Aeronautics; the requirements for the Transport Canada written examination are also more rigorous. As well, additional subjects are considered essential knowledge for the commercial applicant (some of these are identified below).
